After a long day of driving, eager to explore and experience the great salt lake city we stumbled upon INFERNO CANTINA... we walk in to a greatly decorated restaurant. EMPTY!!! Start off with drinks ..server seemed kind of lost when it came to the menu... Unaware of what type of beer was on the menu ... Food came ... Slab of beans .. Nasty! Carne asada burrito. Burnt/salty sauce!!! Over stuffed Mexican pizza!!! Right after the plates were taken bill was placed on the table , no dessert offered... Would not recommend to anyone!!!

The place is cute. The staff is friendly and the food is great! What more could you ask for? It's a dive which is my type of place and on football sundays it's dead. If you like having the bar to yourself this is the place to go.

The salsa tasted like cold tortilla soup. The chips tasted very strange. The salad I ordered was nothing more than bell peppers, chicken, and a couple pieces of moldy peppers. Waitress was great. Service can't keep the doors open though. They need an intervention in the kitchen. The menus text needs to be a larger font. Maybe chef Ramsey can help this place when it's not a club.

Place is a mess. Women's bathroom doors are all broken & only 1 sink works. Waiters & servers are under trained & have no knowledge of the menu. Food was bland & I found a large bone in the shredded chicken taco meat. Management is rude. Mr. Leprechaun behind the bar was the only saving grace. He got them 1 of the 2 stars I give it.

Came here after dinner with a sizable group to get some drinks in the early evening, and had an experience that progressively plummeted downhill after the first mediocre margarita. Our waitress (who was wonderful and entertained us throughout the entire evening, even after we relocated outside) suggested the "freshest" margarita, claiming it was the best one on the menu since it was made with real lime juice and agave - but it was really just a standard tasting margarita. Not impressed. As time passed, the music continually grew louder and louder - and the lights grew more and more dim - until we decided to head out to the patio area to escape the deafening music (keep in mind, at this point, the only patrons were other business folks from the convention we attended - no one was in the mood for the blossoming nightclub atmosphere). Turns out, this joint turns from a so-so Mexican restaurant into a cheesy nightclub. We tried to adapt to our rapidly changing surroundings for as long as possible, but were eventually driven to retreat after flocks of half-naked kids bombarded us with pushy attitudes and a smog of cigarette smoke. Definitely not a good spot to spend the evening if you're not a drunk college kid. This place gets bonus points for the chips and salsa though - the salsa itself wasn't anything to write home about, but I love that the chips were whole fried tortillas you broke apart yourself. Pretty unique!

This is a RESTAURANT REVIEW. I know nothing about the "dance club" part of this business. I would give this place 1 star. But one of my dining companions said these were the best fish tacos they've ever had and the "world's freshest margarita" was the best 'rita they've ever tasted. So, I'll bump them up to 2 stars. Other than those two high points, our visit to Inferno Cantina was a disaster. The "service" was extremely slow. It took forever to get anything. I had to go the bar and put in our drink order myself. When my food finally arrived, it was luke warm. They thought it was very important to deliver everyone's food at the same time, but they accomplished that at the expense of mine sitting around waiting for a while. The rice was undercooked to the point of being crunchy in places. My shredded beef taco was really good, except for the giant clump of fat right in the middle of it. We were told two different times, "We don't serve that kind of beer anymore." Here's an idea... TAKE IT OFF YOUR MENU! And the two beers in question were Sol and Corona Light. Not exactly "exotics," especially for a Mexican restaurant. The table was sticky, presumable from a spilled margarita. I just put a napkin over the sticky spot and it stuck there for the entire meal. We ended up staying at this place for over two hours. We won't be making that mistake again.

Excellent service! Wednesday night there is a Patron Margarita special for just $5! Plus, $4 shots of Patrol. Great deal for the city. They serve fresh tortilla chips and salsa at the bar complimentary. The decor is so unique! I just loved the colorful mosaic columns around the restaurant. They were filled with natural seashells and bottles. While I was there everyone wrote the bar notes and someone got up on top of the bar to place the messages in one of the big bottles on the column. If I'm every in Salt Lake again I will def. be visiting this place again!

This place used to have a lot of character. It wasn't ever the cleanest, but the atmosphere made up for it. They used to have these awesome warpy concrete pillars with mosaics and liquor bottles stuck in them throughout the place, bottle cap tables, and a corona chandelier, but the new owners covered up everything that made it unique and now it looks like a Motel 6 lobby. Why cover up what makes you different? Now it's just another crappy, dirty bar.

I am somewhat of a Mexican food expert and my goodness this place has nailed it. The spices where spectacular, that meat savory, the tortilla's soft amd moist, the beans bursting with bits of flavor. I have eaten in the heart of Mexico, and if I did not know any better, I would have thought I was right back there.

Had the best time, Loved the food and loved everyone working here. Stumbled in here by accident. Turns into night club after 9pm. Lots of good music w/ DJ spinning the top 40. Good size dance floor. drink & food specials. Decor is funky.

Found a piece of a Huka Smoker in my meal, will never eat here again. The sanitation levels questionable at best. I'd recommend Red Iguana down the street.

Try the coconut lime frozen margarita!! It doesn't seem to actually have any alcohol in it (it's Utah after all), but it's so yummy. Also, the staff is really nice. We had an awesome waitress.

HORRIBLE!!! This was the worst dining experience I've had in some time. I met up with friends and I waited 25 minutes to get a drink.I ordered a melon mojito and it was about a 1/4 full of mint leaves. Really? I had to ask twice for water. I asked for no rice and my burrito was filled with rice. The server was wearing a half-shirt so her mid-section was showing. Isn't there some kind of health code against that? She blamed the bar tender for getting my husband's drink wrong and then proceeded to screw up our friends check. DO NOT FREQUENT this sorry excuse for a restaurant.

This place is under new management. Came on a Tuesday and they have $2 taco Tuesday, Tequilas, Coronas and Margaritas. Chips are fresh but a bit salty. I would recommend the fish and shrimp tacos with the watered down Coronas ( after all this is Utah and you are a sinner if you have more than 3.2% alcohol beer, lame ass politicians). Not at all crowded but it was about 6:00pm.

Absolute worst Mexican food ever. Our waitress was so nice, but the service was sooo bad. It took almost an hour to serve a party of 3! Thankfully they took 50% off our bill but still didn't make the matter better. Even the chips were crap! How do you mess up chips?

There food is good and so are the drinks little pricey compared to other clubs and bars I've been to around salt lake though. Good atmosphere, good music and always leave there having a good time. Also I recommend the bartender named Leprechaun I go to him every time, he's awesome and makes real yummy drinks!

Service was great, food was okay. I did like the giant chips but the drink prices....really? hahaha the margarita price is a joke for the size and quality.

This review is not based on the food. But I came here during the Salt Lake Wing fest because they blocked off the road. And this was one of the places you had access too. And I got to say the cocktail waitress was awesome at making sure our drinks never were empty. And she was nice enough to bring us chips and salsa to snack between wings. I will have to come and try the lunch sometime.

Purely as a bar, this place isn't too bad if you're here early or on a weeknight. Drinks aren't too pricey and the selection of beers is reasonable. There are a bunch of TVs so you can watch whatever game or show you please, and the staff is more than willing to accommodate your requests. Cute bartenders and waitresses, too, so bonus there. The problem is Friday/Saturday nights after about 10:00. Lots of what are alternately referred to as "Delta Bravos," "Silky Boners," "Sweet Bros" or what have you. I feel like I'm back in Point Pleasant waiting for the Springsteen cover band, only it's 10 degrees outside and the DJ is playing Sugar Ray. What. The. Hell. I see a lot of people ordering food here. I haven't, but the fact that so many do must mean it's not terrible, right? I guess people eat at McDonald's, though, so maybe that theory doesn't hold much water. Okay, short summation: nice "happy hour" spot for a couple drinks after work, if only Utah had happy hour. Food might be worth investigating. Musclehead/shlore 30-something nightmare on weekends.

I took some friends here last night thinking that because of the ideal location and interesting decor that the food would be decent. Now I know why the place was empty... Our server was very sweet, but didn't really know much about the menu or drinks. The food was edible but far from good. The chips and salsa tasted great but the chips were deep fried and greasy (which is why they tasted good). I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Worst service ever. I came in with a group of 8 and noticed there were only about 10 people, most of which were already eating. We waited 10 minutes before we were given menus and then another 5 minutes for water. We ordered 4 margaritas, two of which were made wrong and tasted disgusting. We waited 45 minutes (trying to be nice) before asking when we could order. By this time, 6 or 7 new customers had already been seated and were already eating. We finally ordered and then waited another hour before telling our waitress this was ridiculous and we need to cancel our orders, to which she said "are you sure, they will be right out". 1/3 of the food came out 20 minutes later and when all the orders came we found that half the orders were wrong. We saw through the windows that the manager was annoyed at his bad service and snuck out the side door, hopped in a car, and drove off. We left and ate somewhere else. We'll never go back. This place is horrible and doesn't even deserve 1 star.

By the time I got here, I had already had about five White Gummi Bears and two Purple People Eaters (which I had to tell the bartenders how to make... Come on, Utah!) so I can't say with 100% certainty that this place was amazing or terrible. This is what I do know: Upon arriving, I ran to the dance floor where the music was borderline way too loud for even a club. You really couldn't hear any of the words to the songs... but it was mostly hip-hop. I was amidst throwing my hands in the air (and they stay there! Up down, up down, up down! 'Cause all I do is win! And what not...), when I noticed someone playing the drums on the dance floor next to me wearing a gorilla mask. If anyone can offer an explanation for that, I'd love to hear it! It was so creepy... Any how, the dance floor was decent for Utah and this was the only place with a crowd that Saturday night, and every one was attractive albeit slightly snobbish. I wouldn't come back here on purpose but I'd recommend it to barely 21-somethings who are looking for a night of stooper.

I was in town for a conference and all I wanted was a vegetarian salad. I asked if I could make the taco salad vegetarian by substituting black beans as the protein. The waitress told me that they could do that with the fajita salad (the most expensive salad). She brings out the salad and a side of black beans. She even made a side comment saying the chef wanted to do it that way-no big deal. Some of the lettuce underneath was frozen, but other then that it wasn't so bad. Then I got a bill for $16 for just a salad! She charged me $2 for the beans! I asked her if they didn't do substitutions. She said "oh well we don't have a button on the register for that." Her answer was more insulting then the actual charge. I said, "so I had to pay for meat that I didn't eat?" She said, "yep." I wasnt asking for the salad to be cheaper, because I was costing them less by not eating the shrimp that usually came on the salad. I was simply asking for them to switch the protein to a cheaper alternative.

We used to come here all the time and it used to be a pretty decent place to go every once in a while, but the last six months or so it has gone downhill fast! The location is pretty good, and during the day the atmosphere is pretty chill, this bar has a lot of potential. We usually went for taco tuesday and for $2, the tacos were decent but lately the food has been awful. Soggy taco shells and overcooked, chewy, oversalted meats. The ambiance has declined significantly as well. It used to be they'd play whatever was popular on the radio at the time, the usual mindless hip hop and dance music and it was fun, but lately they've been bringing in these AWFUL DJ's who have their own mixes to the music they play and they aren't very good. The crowd has also gotten worse, my girlfriend and I have often felt uncomfortable going here as fights have broken out, and I read recently in the news that there was even a shooting where six people got shot. Quite frankly, it didn't surprise me. Do yourself a favor and skip this bar.

For the restaurant. Service was okay. The food left something to be desired. Nothing authentic or amazing tasting. Let's just say I've had airport food that tasted better. The margartias were a joke for what they were priced.

Inferno Cantina. That one dance bar that is hot at night. Who knew that they served good ol' Ameri-exican food during the daytime? I always thought that it was a party place that only opened at night, but nope! It is opened during the day as a restaurant for all ages. The food they serve is decent Americanized Mexican food and is the perfect place for large groups (anywhere from just two to fifteen people). The atmosphere is clean and open with colored lights dangling from the ceilings and was surprisingly empty when I went for a birthday party; probably because not many people know that it is a restaurant by day. Nonetheless, the service was good and they checked regularly to make sure that everything went well. Overall, it's not a bad place to check out and I wouldn't mind going back again. Now, I'm just waiting to see how the nightlife is like at this place.

I wish I could give a 0 star review of this shithole. We were here for a few hours having drinks with no problem until a new bartender came in and immediately gave us some serious attitude. I was labeled on my receipt by my ethnicity, not my name on my credit card which they had for a tab and another person was denied entry because he was talking to the "black guy" in our group. Following my group deciding to leave they refused to return one of my companions credit cards that she put down for a tab. It was not until they were threatened that the card was returned. Blatant racism and horrible attitude are the services they provide here and in that regard they get 5 stars!

Wow great place! We were going to a Jazz game and decided to hit PF Chang's before. Well we didn't want to wait an hour and 15 minutes for a table so we hit the streets. We seen this place through a parking lot with all the neon lights and decided to hit it up. I am glad we did! We were surprised at the lack of people in the establishment. We were pretty leery at first. But all the restaurants around there looked busy due to all the Jazz fans eating out. We decided we would grab some grub here anyway, it was worth a try. They bring out Chips (small tortillas fried) and Salsa. It is kind of fun to break up the tortillas into your bite size chips. I opted for the Inferno Enchiladas with Chicken. They tasted pretty good, inferno sauce is a little spicy, but not bad for me. The only complaint I have is they are sooooooo small! I should have gone for the inferno Burrito which is the same price but is about the same quantity as 4 of the enchiladas, and yes the burrito has the same inferno enchilada sauce on top. Rice and Beans were mediocre, weren't great, but wasn't too bad. My wife got the chicken tacos, and they were super delicious! Love the green jalapeno based salsa they bring out with the tacos. Service was pretty lame. As slow as it was in there the servers should have been on top of things. We had 4 different people show up to our table and none of them were very good. They only refilled our waters when they came to bring the check, and they were empty when they brought our food. We did ask them to refill them at that point and they said no problem, but never returned. Overall it was pretty good food. I would eat there again.

I was in from out of town and looking for a place for May 5th... I hesitated to go to this spot because only 1 review and that review wasn't very good. I'M GLAD I TRIED IT ANYHOW! This place was lots of fun! Great food and food specials. Great drink specials, too. Live music, DJ... I must admit I went here for dinner with a colleague and didn't intent to close the place down but we did because of the fun atmosphere. I look forward to returning next time in town.

I had a couple tacos and a margarita, did I enjoy them? You bet your sweet habanero! It must have been an off night because it was kinda lonely. The bartenders were friendly and having a radio station DJ added to the fun but It was slow and made the room seem so big.

We got some really slow and bad service last night. I had fun because of the people I was with not the place. Our waitress was nice and very friendly, but I never did receive my ice water; the same with another member of our large drinking party. Our table was never cleared of empty glasses and we were there for hours. We had them stacked so high they started falling over, so I had to go ask someone to come and clean the table. They only cleaned about a quarter of the glasses, never wiped off the table and we had a spill earlier. Two of us ordered food that never arrived. Also, in my opinion this place caters to half naked college kids.

I admit it. I picked out the Inferno Cantina for lunch solely because of its name. I really did expect to walk in the doors and find the poet Virgil waiting to guide me through nine circles of, well, lunch. Apparently, Virgil had the afternoon off, however, and we were left to guide ourselves. Arriving mid-day, it was clear that the Inferno Cantina must make most of its money in the later hours. Empty when we arrived, the spacious Mexican themed restaurant/bar/nightclub (that we visited in the middle of the day) clearly had plenty of space, not to mention more than few large televisions strategically situated across the walls of the restaurant. Tile was just as prevalent, if not more so. Tables, floors, walls...tiled. Since we were the first to arrive for the afternoon (other groups came in shortly after us, so don't let me give you the impression that the restaurant isn't popular), our waitress was quick to seat us, quick to take our orders, and quick to fill our glasses, which she did promptly throughout the meal. Strangely, instead of chips for an appetizer, the Inferno Cantina serves what appears to be toasted or fried tostada along side the obligatory bowl of salsa. We broke up the tostadas and dug in. The salsa was a bit runny and not too spicy, which I could always enjoy more, but it was good enough to finish up the chips. I ordered a tamale and a chile relleno, and the result was both satisfying and filling. The relleno was soft and mild, and I enjoyed the cheesy filling of beef, picadillo and queso fresco. I'm not typically a tamale fan, but the "homemade" pork caught my eye and I found it to be warm and tender. I'd order it again. Sided with a full load of rice and beans, Inferno Cantina serves up an excellent Mexican plate.

Lousy service, waited over an hour for my food. Salsa was extremely watery and had no taste. Food stunk. The staff look like they all came out of a Rob Zombie movie. It was like they had a ton of staff, running around doing nothing. All I have to say is stay away! You'll have a better crowd, better drinks and a better time at a place like the Beer Bar.

BLEEEECHHH! One of my co-workers spent the afternoon in the bathroom because of his burrito. Not impressed by the food at all. Waitstaff was very friendly and attentive. Everything else was a major FAIL.

I was in town on business and staying at the nearby Hilton hotel. I went twice in my 3 day trip to SLC. I ordered the chicken fajitas both times. The portion size was generous. I sat at the bar both times and was greeted with great service. I'd go back. I kinda fell in love with Salt Lake City on my trip there and I found my self day dreaming about how that could be one of my regular bars. Check it out!

We joined a group who were already seated for our lunch break during a convention. With the exception of our large group of about a dozen people, the place was fairly empty with only a couple of other diners. It was a half hour before the waiter took our orders, then another HOUR to actually get out food! On top of that, several people had not gotten their food. By the time we all got were served, we had exactly ten minutes till our conference was starting the afternoon session. Needless to say, we all gobbled down the food to try and rush back! The food was okay, nothing special but with service that bad I would say STAY AWAY!

I expected a lot better from this place. The layout and desing is great! I've been here on two different occasions, once for lunch and another on a friday night to have drinks with some friends. My food wasn't all that great, it was a little bland and it took forever to get my drink. (Even though the place was pretty empty). On a friday night, they had a live DJ w/gogo dancers and the music was great! DJ did an amazing job but the place was empty. They have a good size dance floor and like I said before, excellent layout. Drinks are a little over priced and they werent able to make me a Mojito due to the fact that "it takes to long" and they stop serving them after 10. Once again, it was empty... I dont think I'll be going back to this place.

Let it be known that I reeeaallly don't enjoy giving shitty reviews, but today was unacceptable . My friends are big fans of this place- i had never been until today- we went in, specifically to watch a certain football game, as they advertise, 'we have all the games!' Went in, sat down, asked for said game, the bartender said something along the lines of 'only the manager can change the tv and would be right up' -note, the bartender was actually very sweet and accommodating- but the manager never showed. We asked a few times, the bartender was extremely apologetic, ensuring us the manager 'Jeremy' would be up soon, and we asked another employee- some super bitchy girl in all PINK jammies at work, who told us in a very bratty tone 'Jeremy is busy, but he will be up in a minute', about changing the TV, and it never happened. We waited, and waited, for about 30 minutes, and eventually left. We went across the street to Lumpy's, where we watched the game, had some food, and a TON of drinks, racking up a bill of $300... Lumpy's is always busy, and by no means 'needed' our business, the Inferno, on the other hand, which was dead, could have maybe benefited from having us there. How hard is it to take two seconds to come up stairs and change the TV channel? Whomever is the owner of this place, you should be steaming from the ears. Again, the bartender (didn't catch his name) was great, and it was obvious he could do nothing more than relay the message that we asked for one of the many TVs in an empty restaurant to be changed, and frankly, he seemed embarrassed that it didn't happen, but we will not be back on game days. You served us up an extra side of Lame Sauce, Inferno!!!

Came in on a Wednesday night for a few beers after dinner elsewhere. Can't beat $2 Coronas. The service was great. All staff was attentive and even overly excited about giving us free chips. I'd come back for cheap drinks next time I'm in SLC. Have heard that this place is THE spot in terms of nightclub activity but I can't speak to that from lack of experience.

Worst place ever. Sticky floors make it hard to walk. Pool table did not work. Service is awful. One of the bartenders is quite bi-polar screaming at paying customers. And they are racists. The bartender had one customer labeled as "Asian" on his receipt even though she had his card and knew his name. Another guy got kicked out as soon as he entered the bar. He asked what he did and the employee said it was "because you were talking to a black guy outside". Wow. Did not know that was a crime. There are many more bars around that you could go to instead of here.

I used to go there a lot last time I went it was decent went last night on Saturday and they wanted us to pay for a cover ok cover parking drinks that's getting way too much and in their web page it said ladies free all night not going there again btw small dance floor too

Turned away because of what I was wearing. Thick grey t shirt pants and shoes. They were letting gang members in. Nice, Will never return. I will say though thanks for saving me the cover charge and the price of a drink I would have bought. Tip to the ID checking guy. Buy QDEL after summer. Sell before mid January. Ha Ha Ha

Went on a friday evening and you would think the place would be packed. Well, there were more staff than customers. I'm gonna guess why - some of the worst tasting restaurant food I have ever had (verde colorado). Maybe the dance club part is better. The staff is nice and quick but if you're going to eat, go next door.

I went about 2 years ago after watching a UFC fight at Lumpys. My girlfriend and I made a bet with the owner and our drinks ended up paid for at the end of the night, who's not going to love that! It was packed and everyone had a great time!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization.
